It was a beautiful day here in New Hampshire. I also went waterskiing after work! That is all.

Holy mother of ... no thank you. It should be 62 here today, that’s more like it. How’s the kitchen going? We’re looking at a little more than 2 weeks* to moving back in. (*have you ever seen the movie The Money Pit?)

Is that now?! I am excited for snow but I’m not quite ready yet. I went waterskiing last night again, it’s still only wetsuit season. Once the drysuit comes out, it’s really just a thing to do until the snow comes.

Starting Day 4 of the kitchen today. Drywall should get finished, last of the electrical, installation of LED can lights in ceiling, stripping popcorn off ceiling. I’ll be running errands and working on the computer while all this is going on. No, I never saw Money Pit, but I can sympathize, though I’m not doing the work..

That was Saturday, although not where I live. Spent the weekend in Banff.
We’ve had a couple snowfalls here, total probably around six inches, but there’s not much left of it any more.

Sounds like good progress! Our cabinets were going in yesterday and probably done by day’s end today. Overall we’ve been happy - things can only go so quickly, and I don’t have the time to touch any of it myself. We are pretty hands-off with the whole thing, really.
Money Pit is a classic Tom Hanks / Goldie Hawn (I think?) 80's movie where they naively buy a huge old house and renovate it; the contractors are always saying “two weeks, tops” every time they’re asked about anything. I think they are newlyweds at the beginning and divorced by the end of the movie. Every time someone estimates “two weeks” I think of that movie. But really, I think we’re two weeks from being “substantially complete.”

Wow, beautiful! I have only been there in the summer. I want to get up there to ski ... probably in about 8-10 years when my kids are old enough to enjoy it too.

The only weird thing is how my phone’s camera lens caused the truck to be oddly squished, I guess because it’s near the edge of the frame. Photoshop can fix that. But I’m too lazy for this kid of thing.

Shelley Long was in Money Pit. I’ve been expecting almost two months for this whole project (it will take 2-3 weeks for the countertops, and they can’t measure those until the cabinets are in). I knew this was going to be a long haul.

It’s definitely better this time of year. There are just way too many people there in the summer.
As beautiful as the views were, we were a bit irritated with the snow. Because of it we weren’t able to complete either of the trails we wanted to. We were planning on summiting the peak in the second photo but trudging through the foot of fresh snow (and trying to figure out where the trail was underneath it) took so long we didn’t think we’d make it back down before dark. There’s a little lake in the basin right in front that had some of the best tasting “wild” water that I’ve ever had.
The other trail we attempted didn’t have anywhere near as much snow, but we found ourselves walking onto the face of a sheer cliff, just a tiny little eight-inch wide crack in the rock for a trail with no handholds and a 200' plunge. Apparently we missed a turn and that was just a lookout point, so now I have to revisit with less snow on the ground. Maybe late September or so.

We’re hoping for 5 weeks (plus inevitable lingering punch list items). It’s been 3 as of tomorrow and we have counters being measured next Tuesday, installed the following Tuesday. Hoping to move back in the weekend after that; 2 weeks from this Saturday. Optimistic? Maybe. The cabinets are almost all done as of 12:30 today and the appliances are showing up any minute. That gives them all of next week to finish appliances and other electrical. Then the following week, it’s just the counter and sink. And another coat of finish on the floor. Fingers crossed!?

Fingers crossed. I just got back from putting 50% down on my countertops. The guy said 15 days from template to install. That’s a week shorter then he first estimated, so that’s good. If all goes well, we may be cooking Thanksgiving dinner in our new kitchen. First week of December is probably more realistic.

Haha, I’m going after work to put down 50% on our counters. Best of luck! Maybe I’ll get some photos up sometime....

I’ll post more pics today. They are finishing the drywall and scraping the popcorn off the ceiling today. Somebody is coming Saturday to tape and float the walls and ceiling. Paint will be next week. We’re making progress!
